Fungal Toenail Improvement After 3 Months - A Real Patient Story

Sep 22, 2026

We recently had a patient come into Foot Corner because he was worried about one of his toenails.

The nail had become thick, discoloured and looked fungal, and he wanted to know what he could do to improve it.

When I looked at the nail, I explained that fungal nails can take time to clear and that the most important thing is following the right treatment plan and being consistent with it.

We gave him advice on what to do at home and how to look after the nail.

The good thing was, he followed the advice.

When he came back to see us around three months later, there was a really good improvement.

You can really see the difference, especially from the base of the nail where the healthier nail is starting to grow through.

There is still some way to go, because toenails grow very slowly and the damaged nail needs time to completely grow out.

But after only three months, this was a really positive result.

A lot of patients come to us and say they have been using fungal nail treatments for months, sometimes years, but they are not seeing much improvement.

There can be lots of reasons for this.

Sometimes the nail is too thick and the treatment is not getting through properly. Sometimes the treatment has not been used for long enough. And sometimes a nail that looks fungal may not actually be fungal.

That is why it is always worth having the nail looked at properly.

For this patient, simply following the advice we gave him and keeping consistent with it made a big difference.

Every fungal nail is different and results will vary from person to person, but it is always great to see healthier nail starting to grow through.

If you have a thick, yellow, brittle or discoloured toenail and you are not sure what to do, we are happy to have a look and advise you.
